Where Mrs. Luetgert Was Seen:
Tiffin and Green Spring, Ohio

On January 8, 1898, the Chicago Chronicle reported:

Tiffin, O., Jan. 7 The woman who so closely resembles the printed pictures of Mrs. Luetgert ... and who was in Green Spring on Wednesday, was detained here yesterday by the police, who will hold her until they receive information as to her identity. She is German, claims to have been born in Germany and speaks with a strong accent. She refused to divulge the name of her husband or his present location, but stated that her maiden name was Helen Hager. She is about 45 years of age. When questioned about the Chicago sausage-maker she will make no statement, and merely says she is looking for work. Many persons are positive that she is Mrs. Luetgert.
