Where Mrs. Luetgert Was Seen:
Monmouth, Illinois

According to one story, Mrs. Luetgert stopped in Monmouth. Circus equestrian Daisy Thompson, a resident of Kewanee, said she'd encountered a woman in May sitting alone at the train station in Monmouth, where Thompson and her husband were traveling in a private rail car. Thompson said she was "positive" the woman was Mrs. Luetgert. According to some newspaper reports, this incident actually took place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For details of this episode, read the chapter "The Many Mrs. Luetgerts" in Alchemy of Bones.
