Where Mrs. Luetgert Was Seen:
Melrose Park, Illinois

On September 15, several farmers walking along a railroad track near Melrose Park, a town just west of Chicago, saw a disheveled woman running through nearby woods.Police initially thought the woman might be Mrs. Luetgert.  For details of this episode, read the chapter "The Many Mrs. Luetgerts" in Alchemy of Bones.
